The Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation, established in 1982 as an autonomous body under the Forests & Environment Department, Government of Gujarat, pursues objectives in forest and wildlife management, ecological research, and environmental education.

In its effort to promote informed citizen engagement with ecosystems, GEER has taken an information-forward approach for the cactus plants housed in the Cactus Garden near the Statue of Unity in Kevadiya, Gujarat.

The Cactus Garden mobile application is designed to provide essential plant data for each species, including the botanical name, family, origin, longevity, size, notable facts, and uses.

• Each cactus plant is labeled with a QR Code, enabling visitors to scan and retrieve plant details directly on their smartphones.
• The app is accessible via the iOS App Store, and is intended to facilitate on-site exploration by linking physical labels to digital content.
• An audio feature offers narrated information about each plant for users who prefer listening to reading.

As a reviewer, I note that the initiative effectively pairs on-site labeling with digital content to enhance visitor learning. However, its scope may be limited by platform dependence on iOS; broader platform support, offline access, and multilingual options could further strengthen its reach and inclusivity.
